Whether you’re hanging some lights around your BBQ area or adding security lights around your shed, outdoor lighting adds fun and function to just about any outdoor space. However, getting power to outdoor lights can be a tricky prospect for a homeowner to figure out. Luckily, there are multiple ways to light up your yard.
Plug In Outdoor Lights
The easiest way to get lights to your yard is to just plug strands into waterproof exterior outlet/s. Please remember however, any extension cords that you use MUST be suitable for outdoor use.
Solar Outdoor Lights
With a variety of choices ranging from floodlights to path lights, solar is a good way to light your home without having to worry about cords or outlets or adding to your electric bill. Bonus - they can be placed anywhere which definitely increased your options for lighting, as long as they have sufficient sunlight to store power for later usage. Sadly though, you're lighting will be impacted by days of overcast weather as this reduces the amount of sunlight your receptors can gather.
Generator for Outdoor Lighting
If you don’t have outlets available outside, or if you’re trying to light an area too far away from your outlets, a small portable generator can provide power right where you need it. Unlike solar lights, you won’t be as affected by weather. Unfortunately, this can be a noisy option; and perhaps also a little smelly due to the exhaust gases. The cost of fuel obviously needs to be taken into account when considering this option.
Portable Power Centre for Outdoor Lighting
A portable power centre certainly has some definite benefits. It is a great option for a low voltage outdoor lighting system around the BBQ or entertaining area, however, maybe not so good when it comes to floodlights or security lighting. The use of a battery pack does need some planning on your part however, no point having an uncharged unit when you want to relax outdoors!
Wiring Outdoor Lights
Hardwiring outdoor lighting to a dedicated circuit gives you the most consistent power source. This is such a convenient option in the long run however it does require good planning prior to installation but it is entirely suitable for all occasions - BBQ/entertaining, spa area, garden lighting, sheds, entries/gateway, you name it.
You will require a qualified electrician to make sure this hardwiring job is completed safely and properly. Give us a call to get a quote!!
